The Nature of the City

This project is part of the artistic research and subject of Xica Negra's master's degree at Piet Zwart Institute. Its intention is to make people aware of the nature that exists around us, especially in the cities, through art and artistic practices.

As a member of a Traditional Community of Brazil, called Caiçaras, for her, nature is an essential entity that provides us with all the basic and emotional resources so that we can live in full harmony with our surroundings. On the other hand, I’ve been seeing the natural landscape being modified by deforestation, by climate change. This affects the entire planet. Portraying it is a strategy of approaching its influence on people, it's also a way of making a statement that man and nature are part of the same system.
